Powell Pond

This preserve is a rare commodity - a clean salt pond with a tidal flow. It is known to harbor a good assortment of aquatic life and ia fine shelter for wintering ducks such as Canvasbacks and Greater Scaup and several species of gulls, including the rare Lesser Black-backed which has been seen there more than once. The pond lies south of East Island in Glen Cove and is protected by it from winter winds blowing across the Sound from the north.
